On 13th March, 2021, the EDA Foundation, a Corporate Social Responsibility wing of EDA Logistics donated an amount of cash to some selected brilliant but needy students of the Tamale Technical University (TaTU).
The selected students who are in their 3rd year in the university were selected based on exceptional academic merit and each of them received a cash donation to support their tertiary education.
The cash donation was carried out in collaboration with Savannah Optical Services, a leading optical clinic in Tamale, which provided vouchers to the beneficiaries so they can attend free eye screening and consultation services as well.
Mr. Marvin Akyea, the Officer in charge of students records at the Tamale Technical University and who also doubles as the Project Coordinator and Representative of the EDA Foundation in the Northern Region stated that this was the 1st social project EDA Foundation was embarking on and was confident that the Foundation would support more beneficiaries in the not-so-distant future. He also stated that it was difficult for many students to achieve their aspirations beyond their limits and tap into available opportunities due to fear of the unknown.
Mr. Akyea stressed on the fact that the less privileged in society have always had the notion of being poor and always seeking for support instead of making the effort to transform their own lives. He further admonished the less privileged to stop having pity parties and rather motivate themselves to work harder.
Mr. Eric Dziedzom Akukumah, CEO of EDA Logistics and Board Chairman of the EDA Foundation recounted his life-story as a youth where he shared instances he worked in restaurants as a waiter, to be able to raise money to fund his tertiary education.
He stated that working in that position gave him a sense of humility and taught him many life lessons and motivated him to give back to young ones who could not afford it.
He further congratulated the beneficiaries and asked them to study hard and make the Foundation proud.
The students who benefitted from the donation were elated and acknowledged the Foundation for supporting them on their tertiary journey.
The EDA Foundation team also visited the Nbanaa Yili community and donated to a group of shea butter processors.
Items donated included Veronica buckets, face masks for the workers, bags of rice, liquid soap as well as drinks and biscuits for the children in the community.
